LaCombe: “Drill Baby Drill” is not a policy

Virginia Beach, VA, December 20, 2008:  John LaCombe, Democratic candidate for the House of Delegates 81st District, releases the following statement concerning the Bush administration’s closure of public comment on the proposal to lease 2.9 million acres of ocean to oil and natural gas companies. This decision disregards the concerns of environmentalist, NASA and the US NAVY.

“The Bush administration continues to abuse it’s power by attempting to rape the natural resources and environmental treasures located off the Virginia shore. The oil rights at question should not be leased without further intense scrutiny from the people of Virginia. The people of Virginia do not want the Virginia coastline ravaged by greedy corporations that will abuse our natural resources in an attempt to make even more profit, and that will do so without regard for the comfort, security, and long term interests of the people of Virginia.

Our energy crisis is real, and the time is now for true solutions to this problem. “Drill Baby Drill” is not a policy, it is a ridiculous notion that somehow we can change our present reality by continuing to do the same things. We need to focus on solar, wind, wave, and other environmentally friendly and potentially limitless resources that we can harness to provide real long term energy solutions. If we want real energy solutions, we must do something different.”

John’s opponent in the 81st House district represents a carbon copy of Bush administration policies that listen to big business and big money lobbyists over the people of Virginia and the United States of America. We desperately need a new direction in government, and the people of the 81st can choose that new, responsible, constituent focused government by electing John LaCombe, Democrat for the 81st House of Delegates District, on the January 6th, 2009 special election.
