Brian Moran: Says yes to the environment

By Joel McDonald • Jan 22nd, 2009 • Category: Blog, Campaigns & Elections

Brian MoranVirginia gubernatorial candidate Brian Moran is making it clear that he stands on the side of the environment. With every candidate seeking office talking about protecting the environment, renewable energy, and green jobs, Moran is firmly moving forward with a specific environmental agenda that goes above and beyond current proposals in Virginia.

Moran has reached out to conservationists by supporting a 25% Renewable Portfolio Standard (where 25% of Virginia’s energy would come from renewable sources), being in opposition to any offshore drilling off Virginia’s coasts, and pledging to stop the creation of a proposed coal-fired power plant in Surry, Virginia.

“2009 should be the year that we make unprecedented commitments to clean, renewable energy that can preserve our planet and create thousands of new jobs all over the Commonwealth”, says Moran. At a reception I attended in early December, Moran was adamant that Virginia could be on the cutting edge of green technology jobs and renewable energy.
