GOP brings out the…big guns?

Admittedly, I haven’t have the opportunity to watch President Barack Obama’s congressional address yet. I’ll get to it, I promise. However, I did catch a significant portion of Governor Bobby Jindal’s rebuttal speech via the radio on my way home that evening. I’d heard Jindal’s name in passing, but knew very little about him, and nothing in his speech seemed like he was anything special.

I felt as though the GOP was attempting to paint a contrast between Obama’s message of the economic crisis, and Jindal’s “Americans can do anything” happy-go-lucky presentation.

Republicans seem to really be searching for some sort of rebirth in the perceptions of Americans. From electing their first African American Chairman of their national committee, to raising Jindal up on a high pedestal as an “up-and-comer”. This lifting of Jindal seems to be an attempt at creating the image that the GOP is inclusionary, given Jindal’s ethnic background. Is the GOP running away from it’s image of gray-haired white men who hate diversity?

…They certainly have a long way to go to accomplish that goal.

Jindal makes a much better radio impression than he does on camera, regardless of what he was saying. If this is who Republicans are resting their hopes on, it’s a good day to be a Democrat.

As for content, John Stewart seems to have a good handle on that.
