A new section, and new blogger
By Joel McDonald • Mar 13th, 2009 • Category: Blog, On a Personal NoteAll to often it’s extremely easy to lose perspective when your head is swimming in the sometimes murky pool that we call politics. Such perspective is essential to thinking critically when considering policy. How often have we seen a politician who has proposed policies or ideologies that done jive at all with the reality that people face day to day in our city, our commonwealth, our nation, and our world?
The “But Wait, There’s More” section of Virginia Beach Progressives is an effort to provide some additional insight and perspective in support of creative critical and progressive thinking. We would all do well to take a break and seek resources like this as we push for a more progressive society. After all, it’s really the issues of reality that should be shaping politics. If we can understand one another better, we can understand better how government should serve the public.
Melanie Jones is a good friend of mine who has often provided such perspective to my life. Her insights, gathered not only from significant formal education but also through world experience, will, I hope, provide some valuable perspective to readers of the Virginia Beach Progressives blog. Non-partisan, yet progressive, Melanie is a valuable asset to the progressive community as a writer and thinker. I’m very pleased to have her aboard.
And who knows, perhaps I’ll have a thing or two to add to this section as well. Let’s all seek a little more perspective in our pursuits. We deal with a great number of important issues constantly, “but wait, there’s more.”
