Brian Moran at Virginia Beach officeBrian Moran spent Saturday in Virginia Beach, first speaking at the Virginia Beach Democratic Committee breakfast and then later opening a campaign office in the city. It was certainly an exciting day for supporters of Moran as they turned their sights on working toward electing him as the next Governor of Virginia.

I’ve heard Moran speak on many occasions at events throughout the Virginia, and have heard the same stump speech segments, in various forms, time and time again. Still, the most impressed I’ve ever been with Moran was the first time I met him at a reception held in his honor here in Virginia Beach last December.

What struck me then, as someone who was just getting his feat wet in Virginia politics, and still strikes a chord with me today, as sometime who is barely ankle deep in it, was how he laid out the accomplishments of Mark Warner and Tim Kaine and made the argument for why, and how, he would continue that Democratic tradition in Virginia. Today, I was once again impressed with Brian Moran’s experience, record, and vision for Virginia and was reminded of why I started supporting him in the first place.

Brian Moran is proposing big, progressive, ideas in his campaign that, when enacted, will move Virginia forward. He understands that strengthening the commonwealth economically means first improving the quality of education. He understands that lowering unemployment means standing behind businesses to help them employ. He understands that making Virginia a leader in green technology and jobs means that we have to be fully invested in making that goal a reality rather than only paying it lip service. Brian Moran is convinced that Virginia can conquer current challenges with the right kind of leadership, from the governor throughout the legislature. These are serious times, requiring a serious leader who understands the challenges that Virginians face, and how to work to improve their lives.

At the office opening, former mayor Meyera Oberndorf introduced Moran. During Moran’s comments, he told supporters that, “People know where I’m going because they know where I’ve been.” He’s been there for Virginians during his 20 years of public service in the commonwealth, and he’ll be there as our next governor.

The new office will serve as the hub for phone banking and canvassing in the area. It was noted that there were many new faces in the crowed, indicating that support and a willing base of volunteers is growing in Virginia Beach. It is located at 737 Independence Blvd., Unit 104, Virginia Beach, VA 23455.
