National, State, and Local Politics Affecting Virginia Beach

McWaters to Face Democratic Challenger in the 8th!

By Joel McDonald • Dec 10th, 2009 • Category: Blog, Campaigns & Elections

SurpriseWell folks, the rumbling I mentioned in my last post about their being a Democratic candidate in special election in the 8th VA Senate District was on target.

Bill Fleming has been nominated to run against Jeff McWaters, who won the Republican nomination on December 5th. He made his announcement at the Virginia Beach Democratic Committee business meeting last evening.

Fleming is a very active member of the Virginia Beach Democratic Committee, and has participated in and worked with Democracy for America and Organizing for America. Fleming is also currently running unopposed for Secretary of the Virginia Beach Democratic Committee.

I’ve had the opportunity to attend events, work, and discuss various issues with Bill Fleming and I have always been impressed by his dedication, insight, and desire to do things better. He has my full endorsement and support in his campaign to become the next Virginia State Senator from the 8th District.

The election is on January 12th.

Much more to come!

  1. Someone needs to contact Jim Webb and John Miller and get these, extremely well respected, moderate Democrats, to do some radio and TV spots for Bill Fleming.

I doubt that Bill’s campaign has the funds to do radio spots right now, but Senator Webb and State Senator Miller probably could provide radio endorsements as in-kind donations.

While the Beach is considered a Republican area, for now, the more the citizens learn about how the Republicans ignore the Constitution, and are Hell-bent to sell off our infrastructure, as well as sending our jobs to China, they will begin to see the light that Bill Fleming is bringing to this election.

As a VETERAN, ansd local business owner who has created real, local jobs, Bill Fleming, has the instant credibility with the working-class Virginia Beach voters.

The Republicans have shown their true agenda by nominating a former health insurance gate-keeper. They are all about doing the bidding of the multinational corporate “Big Boys” while giving the finger to our fellow workers.

Bill fleming will be a refreshing voice for local job creation and sensible environmental stewardship that will promote VBs number one asset, the Beach.

Virginians who typically vote Republican are going to cross over for Bill Fleming, because Bill is steadfast in his advocacy for Virginians and our Constitution. Bill is about creating good local jobs, while his opponent is all about doing the bidding of the multinational corporations. For locals, the choice is clear: Bill Fleming for Senate!

  2. Mr. Ballance,

Thanks for your comments. We’re looking at some very promising aspects of this campaign, and a lot of unknowns in this district. I think Bill Fleming would be a pragmatic State Senator, and I would be proud to have him represent me here in the 8th. I plan on devoting many hours toward his success.

  3. If anyone knows the campaign website address (if any) for Bill Fleming, please let us know. Same goes for any other way we can contribute to his campaign or contact him. We shouldn’t let this race go down without a fight!

  4. Douglas,

A website from Fleming is forthcoming, and I’ll be sure to announce it here on VBP.

  5. forget moderate webb. fleming is a liberal. he is running his campaign to excite his liberal base! the exact thing deeds never did! i admire mr. fleming greatly
