Did Bill O’Reilly Compare Gays to Terrorists?
By Joel McDonald • Jun 4th, 2010 • Category: Blog, Related News & EventsStealing from Keith Olbermann here, but my worst person of the day is Bill O’Reilly (who, not surprisingly has made Olbermann’s list more than a few times). O’Reilly made the superhuman leap in comparing gays to terrorists, asking whether or not McDonald’s would add Al Qaeda to the groups being targeting in their “Come as You Are” ad campaign. The question was sparked by this McDonald’s ad running in France.
I’ve been meaning to post and comment on this video for a while, as it’s been sort of a topic of debate online amongst the LGBT community. Personally, I thought the ad left things open for interpretation. Perhaps the young man is going to take the conversation we see in the ad and use it to come out to his father while they both enjoy a Big Mac. Hey, it could happen. Regardless of how one interprets the ad, McDonald’s France hit the nail on the head when it comes to advertising. People are talking. Now back to O’Reilly.
O’REILLY: Alright, so look, they want to make a political statement selling burgers. They’re entitled to it. It will never run in the USA. They’ll never do that.
SKINNER: Part of an overreaching campaign called come as you are, which you saw at the end there. So they show people in different walks of life. This happens to be their gay friendly ad.
O’REILLY: OK. Do they have an al Qaeda ad, you know, come as you are? You know?
SKINNER: And how do you know it’s not coming to the States?
O’REILLY: I don’t know.
SKINNER: Never say never.
O’REILLY: No. That would not – I guarantee you that will not run here.
So I guess we know where O’Reilly stands on LGBT people…they are comparable to terrorists! Doesn’t that make you all warm and fuzzy? Of course, one could argue that he catering to the large segment of his viewers over at Fox News.
While this ad will likely not run in the US, I can only hope the Internet exposure will lead people like O’Reilly to stay clear of those gay loving McDonald’s restaurants. Maybe then I’ll have a shorter line to order and be able to enjoy my FRENCH fries in peace. C’est la vie!
