Senator Robert Byrd: 1917 – 2010
By Joel McDonald • Jun 28th, 2010 • Category: Blog, Lead Story
West Virginia Senator Robert Byrd, 92, passed away peacefully early this morning, ending a 51 year career in the United States Senate. Byrd was the longest serving member in congressional history, oldest member of congress, and the first person to serve uninterrupted for a half-century.
Senator Byrd would be the first to admit that he made mistakes in the past, and he would also be the first to apologize for those mistakes.
What I will remember is a Senator who served faithfully and was a pillar of the institution that is our United States Senate, and someone not afraid to do what he believed to be right.

Robert Byrd was a real person..he learned from his mistakes, learned that everyone is equal, that war is wrong and solves nothing.. RIP Robert. We lost a true Democratic leader with him.
