Scott Rigell FAILS question on New GI Bill

By Joel McDonald • Jul 2nd, 2010 • Category: Blog, Campaigns & Elections

So, you’re a Republican running for Congress in a district that is heavily military and someone asks you a question about the New GI Bill that has sent over a quarter of a million veterans to college who otherwise might not have had the ability to attend, providing the same kind of benefits today to veterans that were provided after World War II, paying for tuition, books and a living stipend. What do you do?

The obvious answer for this candidate is to respond positively, in favor of our military men and women who have served our nation, right?

Not for this candidate!

Scott Rigell seemed ignorant, or at least confused, of what the New GI Bill does, and refused to respond to the question!

So much for Republicans being the party that supports the military.

Meanwhile, Democratic Senator Jim Webb who introduced the New GI Bill and pushed for its passage,  on the one-year anniversary of its launch remarked that, “We can all take pride today.”

What about Democratic Congressman Glenn Nye, what has he said about the New GI Bill? During his campaign, he hammered Republican Thelma Drake for her flip-flopping on the bill (she voted against it, before she voted for it), and after he was elected, Congressman Nye has fought to ensure the program is fair to veterans.

On the issue of who will support our troops and veterans, I think the choice is clear: Congressman Glenn Nye.

  1. Boy, y’all are desperate

  2. No Brian, I can assure you that no one on this side of the fence is at all even remotely desperate.

It’s interesting that Scott Riggell isn’t even intelligent enough to give an answer out about his beliefs on something so freaking simple.

I mean come on. Simple as pie…and seemed pissed off for no good reason.

Glenn Nye is going to eat him for breakfast.

  3. Seemed. Seemed. Seemed. Never say what is. Just talk about what “seemed”

  4. Hello I am with a group on Facebook that has been formed to correct the injustice being done towards our fellow soldiers and veterans, it is called: New G.I. Bill Promises To Veterans Broken Make The V.A. Restore Them ! http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=188528303993&ref=ts . My name is Leonard Clark and I am a Persian Gulf/ Iraq Veteran. I and my family were personally greatly hurt financially to due to the broken promises of this administration and negligence regarding the New G.I. Bill in addition, I like many other soldiers and veterans now have a ruined G.P.A. with years of work down the drain all due to the negligence of this agency and the president not keeping proper control of it. Please, join our group and help us grow our numbers so that we can fight non-violently to correct the injustice being towards ourselves and fellow veterans! This is a disgrace and can longer be tolerated with inaction, make them hear our voices in Washington, in your state and at ballot box come November !
