Maybe I jumped the shark in pushing for a shift in focus. It could very well be that we have a much more difficult battle winning the hearts and minds of people than we have with arguing the unconstitutionality of laws against gay marriage.

Unfortunately, this is how many of my conversations go with far too many people who get worked up about what they think they know, even if what they think they know is wrong.

In my view, LGBT equality is a very large part of our nation’s continuing evolution to be a more perfect union. The groundwork for this is already laid out in the 14th Amendment.

Google is going to begin covering a cost that gay and lesbian employees must pay when their partners receive domestic partner health benefits.

It is a foundational doctrine in the development of our nation, and it’s time that GLBT people stand up and demand that the promise of equality become a reality in their lives.

We did much more than put pressure on the grass during the National March for Equality. We marched in affirmation of who we are, with the knowledge of the rights that we, as Americans, should have.

Building a coalition requires exposing the general public to the realities of what it means to be GLBT. It needs to become more than a concept to people. It needs to become personal.
